Do I Need a Visa to Enter Tanzania?
Yes — most travelers require a visa to enter Tanzania. As of January 2025, Tanzania has discontinued the visa-on-arrival option. All travelers must apply for an eVisa in advance through the official Tanzania Immigration portal:

eVisa Application Process:
- Fill out the online application
- Upload required documents:
- Passport (valid for 6+ months)
- Passport-size photo
- Flight itinerary
- Accommodation confirmation (optional)
- Pay the fee:
- $50 USD for single-entry visa
- $100 USD for multiple-entry visa
- Processing time: Up to 10 business days
- Print the approval letter and carry it with you when entering Tanzania
Note: Without a valid eVisa, you may be denied entry at the airport or border.
Passport Requirements for Tanzania
- Valid for at least 6 months beyond your departure date
- Two blank pages required for entry/exit stamps
- Must be machine-readable and in good condition
- Children must have individual passports
Temporary documents and endorsements are not accepted.

Zanzibar Entry Requirements
Mandatory Travel Insurance
As of October 2024, all tourists must purchase inbound travel insurance through the Zanzibar Insurance Corporation (ZIC). International policies are not accepted.

- Covers up to 92 days
Yellow Fever
Required only if arriving from or transiting through a yellow fever-endemic country. Travelers from the US, Canada, EU, UK, and Australia typically do not need the vaccine. Still, it’s wise to carry your Yellow Fever Certificate.
Currency & Customs
- Declare amounts over $10,000 USD when entering or leaving Tanzania
- Foreign tourists cannot bring in or take out Tanzanian Shillings
- Carry some cash for tips and markets; cards accepted at hotels/lodges
